On Tuesday, February 8, Interlochen Center for the Arts faculty members Dane Philipsen and Ya-Ju Chuang will give a recital.
Ahead of this recital, Philipsen and Chuang performed music for English horn and piano by Marie Grandval in IPR's Studio A.
Philipsen remarked that neither he or Chuang had played the Grandval piece before, but that after the music arrived, it was obvious they would include it on the upcoming concert.
"We read through the first movement and looked at each other, and we knew this piece would be on the program. It just spoke to us immediately," he said.
The program will include visiting artist and oboist Jaren Atherholt, who is the Assistant Professor of Oboe at the University of North Carolina School for the Arts.
Atherholt is also an alumna of both Interlochen Arts Camp and Academy.
In addition to playing with students and colleagues at Interlochen, Chuang finds playing with guests artists rewarding as well.
"It's always inspiring to work with different artists," she said, "We get inspired by the music and in our conversations. And I'm really looking forward to playing with Jaren on Tuesday."
In Studio A with Dane Philipsen and Ya-Ju Chuang was engineered by Stefan Wiebe.
This Tuesday's concert featuring Jaren Atherholt, Dane Philipsen, Ya-Ju Chuang and Patrick Owen will be held in the Dendrinos Chapel Recital Hall at Interlochen at 7:30pm. Admission is free. Click here for more information and tickets.
