Interlochen's new Associate Director of D.E.I. (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) Esther Triggs cohosted an hour of music on Classical IPR with morning host Kate Botello.
Esther described how her work applies here at Interlochen.
"I am working here with the faculty, staff, administration and the students to help create an environment that is a community where everyone feels like they belong, everyone feels they are included, "she said, "and that means diversifying who is in the space, learning from each other and growing together as a community."
Esther has spent a lifetime in musical theatre and, specifically, has a Masters' degree in Applied Theatre, applying theatre to many different areas of life. "I learned very quickly on," she said, "that applying theatre/theatrical principles of dialogue, reflection and action actually can work towards transformation to being a better human being."
Esther shared some wonderful stories of musical theatre, music from some formative productions in her life, and music from the first time she really felt "seen" by a music teacher.
Included in this hour - highlights from "Fiddler on the Roof," "Pippin" and "Jesus Christ Superstar" as well as a songs by Darryl Taylor and Nat King Cole - with a special surprise tune at the end!
