Listen to the Detroit Symphony Orchestra live on IPR starting at 10:45 a.m. ET.
Music Director Jader Bignamini conducts selections from Bernstein’s "West Side Story" and Tchaikovsky’s "Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture," offering two contrasting interpretations of star-crossed lovers. In his debut with the DSO, pianist Wayne Marshall showcases George Gershwin’s iconic piece, "Rhapsody in Blue."
Pianist Wayne Marshall has collaborated with the DSO on several occasions. "(Marshall has) played ‘Rhapsody in Blue’ with all the most famous orchestras in the world, and every time, he finds different details to pay attention," says DSD director Jader Bignamini. "And so when we decided to plan (our version), his was the first name that I suggested, because for me, the best ‘Rhapsody in Blue’ played is his ‘Rhapsody in Blue."
