UAW, Ford reach tentative deal; workers to return to plants

The UAW and Ford Motor Company have reached a tentative deal on a new contract.

The agreement includes a 25 percent wage increase, among other concessions.

“We told Ford to pony up and they did," said UAW President Shawn Fain. "We won things nobody thought was possible.”

UAW local leaders will review the deal this weekend, with the union rank and file getting a chance to vote after that.

Meanwhile, UAW Vice President Chuck Browning says workers are returning to work at Ford plants idled during the 40-day strike.

“We’re going back to work at Ford to keep the pressure on Stellantis and GM," Browning said. "The last thing they want is for Ford to get back to full capacity while they mess around and lag behind.”

Ford issued a statement saying it’s focused on restarting its Michigan Assembly Plant and two other major plants idled by the strike.
