The 6th annual Fresh Coast Film Festival combines the great outdoors with film screenings that explore adventure, conservation, and stories of inspiration.

And there’s lots of local beer.

Joe Beyer, who writes for the Northern Express, says the themes around the Fresh Coast Film Festival continue to evolve and this year is no exception.

“One of the qualities about Fresh Coast that’s so interesting are these really broad themes that seem to connect with people – nature, conservationism, activism – and now a new category of almost mental health, and stories of spirituality, and personal inspiration,” Beyer says.

“(Festival co-founder Aaron Peterson) said that the idea of what makes ‘Fresh Coasting’ is getting broader and larger, and including some things that maybe they didn’t expect in the beginning, but they seem to be a perfect fit for what they’re up to.”

Over 80 films will be shown in Marquette, October 13-16.

Joe Beyer is a writer and producer who has supported storytellers and arts and culture organizations in a career including leadership positions at Sundance Institute, The Redford Center, Traverse City Film Festival, Michigan Legacy Art Park, and Parallel 45 Theatre, among others.
