Siblings Sara and Sean Watkins―two-thirds of the band Nickel Creek―will pass through northern Michigan for one night only. They’ll play as The Watkins Family Hour in Bay Harbor on September 23rd. As the band readies for tour, this 20-year-old side project is releasing its third studio album.

Joe Beyer writes for The Northern Express and he says this night in Bay Harbor is sure to be one of those “don’t miss musical moments.”

Watkins Family Hour is a number of things at once. "Watkins Family Hour is a side project of Sean and Sara Watkins...and they started this as kind of an experimental residency 20 years ago at Club Largo in Los Angeles," Beyer said, where every month they would just invite their friends, musical associates, colleagues and they'd just have an ongoing jam session."

From that musical experiment, three studio albums were made.

"Watkins Family Hour is also a band, and they're now also on tour," Beyer said. "There's a warm, very familial kind of vibe to these shows."

The group will perform at Great Lakes Center for the Arts with special guests Margaret Glaspy and Pete Harper. For more information, click here.

Dan Wanschura is the Host and Executive Producer of Points North.
