<p><a href="mailto:payettepc@interlochen.org"><em>By Tom Carr</em></a></p> <p>Many gun dealers in northern Michigan are selling out of most semi-automatic firearms, handguns and ammunition. It's all part of a three-month buying frenzy that continues following the school shootings in Connecticut.</p> <p>Gun owners fear Washington will pass stricter gun control or even confiscate guns in the aftermath of the Sandy Hook Elementary shootings. The December tragedy is driving a run on firearms in Traverse City and the rest of the country.</p> <p>Firearms dealers throughout the area say their distributors are back-ordered and some items may take months to get in stock.</p> <p>In Washington, the Senate has been working on at least four gun bills, and polls indicate most Americans want stricter gun laws.</p> <p>Local dealers use words like "frenzy" and "hysteria" to describe the current demand for weapons and ammo that could become outlawed.</p>
