Alan Gerber calls his music "eccentric boogie-woogie" because he's not a purist. He draws from all sorts of styles - he combines boogie-woogie with blues, gospel and a little funk.
And he is pretty eccentric - singing, talking, dancing, laughing and stepping out into the audience. One of his songs made number one on the charts in Canada. It's called Dog Dog and is simply about how much your dog puts you through. Yeah, Gerber does a lot of upbeat numbers but there's a little of the romantic balladeer in him, too.
Alan Gerber performs Saturday, November 26 at 8 p.m. at the Crooked Tree Performing Arts Center in Petoskey. It's being put on by Blissfest.
