The Michigan attorney general’s office responded Wednesday to a legal filing asking the state Supreme Court to block certification of the November 3 election.
The lawsuit was filed by poll challengers working for President Donald Trump’s campaign.
The state’s response can be summarized as: the election’s over and the ballots are counted.
Those totals have been certified by the Wayne County Board of Canvassers – albeit after a wild and contentious meeting where Republican board members initially tried to block certification.
The case filed by poll challengers working for President Trump’s campaign has lost in lower courts. And the challenge is to results tallied in Wayne County and Detroit.
The next step now is for statewide certification by the Michigan Board of State Canvassers, which has a meeting scheduled for Monday.
The attorney general says after that, Republicans and the Trump campaign can ask for a recount if they want.
