Ludington Historic District Proposed

<p>A group of homeowners in Ludington are hoping the city will create a new historic district. Some of the people backing the proposal own mansions built near the turn of the century by lumber barons. They want to see their properties and other historic structures preserved for generations to come. Proponents asked the city to form a committee to research and evaluate the mansions. Heather Venzke is Ludington's Community Development Director. Venzke says opponents of the district are concerned about property rights. </p> <p>Venzke: "For instance, any building or additional building or modifications of the home would have to go through a review committee that would be put in place as a result of that ordinance so it would be an additional step for them." </p> <p>The committee will make its case to the people of Ludington in a public hearing tonight, October 22, at 6:30 at City Hall at 400 S. Harrison in Ludington.  </p>
