This week on The New Jazz Archive, we remember the great Dave Brubeck—from his roots growing up on a California ranch, to his smash hit 1959 recording "Time Out," to his turn to sacred music in the last decades of his life. We’ll talk with Dave’s son Chris Brubeck about his memories of his legendary father, and hear how Dave Brubeck defied the odds and became a jazz celebrity in the early rock and roll era. And we’ll take a tour of the experimental side of Dave Brubeck with our jazz historian Lewis Porter, and explore why Brubeck disbanded his legendary quartet and turned to religious music in the 1970s.
