Samantha Crain: Songs Of The Morning After

Hailing from rural Oklahoma, Samantha Crain and her band The Midnight Shivers have already achieved a good deal of national acclaim. A strong full-length debut, Songs in the Night, has certainly helped, but most of the positive press has been centered on Crain's voice, which is powerful and accessible, clear and emotional.

Crain's inviting blend of country twang and indie-rock earnestness makes it good music for Saturday-night honky-tonking and the lazy, rainy morning after. She and her band recently stopped by KUT's Studio 1A and talked about Oklahoma's musical legacy, her place therein, Thom Yorke, folk music and just how her songs came into being.
