Detroit Symphony Orchestra LIVE: December 6, 2019

Join Classical IPR this Friday, December 6 at 10:40am for a LIVE broadcast of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.

The Friday morning concert takes place in Orchestra Hall and is produced in partnership with WRCJ Detroit and WKAR.

Juanjo Mena conducts, and violinist James Ehnes will be the featured soloist.

In Studio A with the Northern Lower Brass Quartet

The Northern Lower Brass Quartet brought holiday cheer to Studio A at Interlochen Public Radio.

The group appeared in advance of Tuba Christmas. The event will be December 7 at 2 p.m. at the First Congregational Church on Center Road in Traverse City.

Tuba and euphonium players who wish to participate should register on site at 12 p.m. this Saturday.

Classical IPR in Concert: Nicholas Goluses

This week Classical IPR in Concert features guitarist Nicholas Goluses.

Goluses is Professor of Guitar at the Eastman School of Music. His concert tours have taken him across North America, South America, Europe, Australia and Asia to critical acclaim.

Recently, Nicholas Goluses performed in the Dendrinos Chapel/Recital Hall at Interlochen Center for the Arts.

The program included works by Fernando Sor, Johann Sebastian Bach, Maria Newman, Mikis Theodorakis and more. See the complete concert program below.

In Studio A with Catharsis Winds

Catharsis Winds visited Interlochen Public Radio's Studio A during their recent stop at Interlochen Center for the Arts.

Catharsis Winds, a Cleveland-based award-winning ensemble, performed in Studio A last year. They returned this month with some new repertoire to share. Also, members of the group spoke about their busy year performing in the United States and Europe.

In Studio A with Catharsis Winds was engineered by Brock Morman with production assistance from Helga Tong.

This week, Classical IPR in Concert features the October 2019 performance of the Traverse Symphony Orchestra.

Kevin Rhodes conducts "Symphonie Fantastique" by Hector Berlioz and "Giants of the Night" by David Amram, featuring flute soloist Nancy Stagnitta.

Tune in Friday at 8 p.m. or Sunday at noon, or listen below any time.

In Studio A with Chris Correa

Chris Correa is a senior at Interlochen Arts Academy. He is from Long Beach, California and studies oboe with Dane Philipsen.

Chris visited IPR’s Studio A to perform the etude "Boulevard des Capucines" by Gilles Silvestrini.

He told IPR why he enjoys the repertoire he's working on and how reed making class is going.

Tune in at 7 p.m. to hear commerical recordings by James Galway.Then at 7:25, we'll go live to Corson Auditorium for the main event. The concert downbeat is at 7:30 p.m.

The program includes the Flute Concerto No. 2  by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and the Second Symphony of Johannes Brahms.
