On July 23, 2023, the nearly 100 young musicians from Interlochen's World Youth Symphony Orchestra had a very special opportunity.
They were joined on the stage of Kresge Auditorium by 31 members of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.
The DSO had given its own concert the previous night, part of its summer residency at Interlochen.
During the same weekend, members of the orchestra taught master classes for Interlochen Arts Camp's high school students musicians and played alongside various high school ensembles.
This episode features the side-by-side performance of WYSO and the DSO musicians.
DSO music director Jader Bignamini conducted this performance of Gustav Mahler's Symphony no. 1.
