One of the world's most extensive and valuable collections of African music has come to the University of Michigan.

It's the Leo Sarkisian Collection of African Music. It's a mind-boggling collection of music from Africa.

What does this significant collection of African music mean to scholars across many disciplines?

Cynthia Canty talks with Leo Sarkisian himself. He's an ethnomusicologist and was the long-time host of "Music Time in Africa" for Voice of America.

Sarkisian was joined by Kelly Askew. She's an associate professor in the Departments of Anthropology and Afroamerican and African Studies. Askew is the founding director of U of M's  African Studies Center.
