Uber Eats now delivering in Traverse City

Uber Eats now delivers from select restaurants in Traverse City.

People in Traverse City can now have Uber bring them food.

Uber Eats is a food delivery service that works just like the ride sharing service. Drivers pick up food orders from restaurants and deliver them to customers for a fee.
“There is a delivery fee and that delivery fee can vary based on how close you are to that restaurant, what the weather is like and if that restaurant is really busy," says Uber Eats spokesperson Charity Jackson. "What’s great about Uber Eats is as you scroll through the app, you can see the delivery fees before you even click into a restaurant.”

Currently, three McDonald’s locations in Traverse City offer the service, but other restaurants are expected to sign on in the near future. Jackson says Uber Eats works with with mom-and-pop restaurants as well as chains.

“If a restaurant also wants to try out new dishes and expand their cuisine offerings, we can also offer menu items on Uber Eats that aren’t even available in brick and mortar stores," she says. "So it’s really a great opportunity for restaurants to not only expand their business but try out new things.”

Drivers for Uber Eats also aren't subject to the vehicle requirements that regular ride sharing Uber drivers are. Older and two-door vehicles can be used to deliver food.

To have food delivered, users must download the Uber Eats app.
