Saxophonist Marcus Elliot talks about Detroit and jazz

Jodi Westrick

One of the big treats of doing Stateside live from the Charles H. Wright Museum was the live music from the Marcus Elliot Quartet.

Elliot talked with CynthiaCantyabout getting hooked on jazz,  teaching jazz at Troy High School and influences from his travels around the world, plus much more.

"My dad would take me down to jazz clubs and I started actually meeting people my own age that were playing the music and I was like 'whoa,' there's actually kids that play this as well. And so, I was introduced to a whole community of amazing Detroit jazz musicians and once I heard people my own age playing, it I just jumped on it," said Elliot.
