Our conversation with Jack BergmanOne of Michigan's marquee races is the one to replace retiring Republican Rep. DanBenishekin the1stCongressional District.

The district covers the entire Upper Peninsula and much of the northern Lower Peninsula.

State Sen. Tom Casperson and former State Sen. Jason Allen were hoping to make the November ballot.

So was a retired three-star Marine Lieutenant General named Jack Bergman.

“This election, you have a choice. Vote for another career politician and get more of the same. Or vote for me, a straight-talking Marine Corps general. I'll get the job done," he said in a campaign ad.

That message spoke to voters. Bergman has won the 1st Congressional District Republican primary.

He joined us on Stateside to talk about his almost 40 years in the Marine Corps, compromising in Congress and the upcoming presidential election.
