State lawmakers have announced more than $10.5 million dollars for road improvement projects in northern Michigan.

Major projects include $2 million dollars for the reconstruction of Old US-31 from Cadillac to Manton. In Traverse City, $1.5 million dollars will go toward Division Street and a West Front Street bridge. There are also projects in Kingsley and Empire Township.

Almost $850,000 dollars have been allocated for upgrades and repairs on US-31 in Petoskey.

The money comes from a Roads and Risks Reserve Fund – one-time monies from the general budget totaling $115 million dollars.

The governor has asked lawmakers for a billion dollars in road funding. That’s expected to be one of the top items on lawmakers’ agenda as they return to the state Capitol in the New Year.
