A Minute with Mike: On driverless vehicles

With all this talk of autonomous vehicles, Stateside producer Mike Blank humorously breaks down the relationship between cars, computers and humans.

Despite the growing convergence of cars and computers, motorists still have to pump gas, at times haggle with the local mechanic down the street, or continuously watch the road for massive pot-holes and their fellow aggressive drivers.

Well, car and software companies are working hard on tackling that issue by building -- Are you ready!?!! 

Driver-less cars!!! 

In fact, one tech giant is working on a car that won’t have a steering wheel. Because, why would one need a steering wheel in a car? How silly -- and20thcentury.

But, before I pump up your dreams of going through the drive-thru wearing pajamas while indulging in, well whatever,  I should tell you that…

(Sounds of computer crashing).

Wow, that’s embarrassing! Seems my computer crashed. Good thing it wasn’t a car.

Guess, I’ll get back to you once this thing reboots.

Mike Blank is a producer and editor for Stateside. Inspired by a story on a bag of Uncle Ray’s potato chips, Blank created the satire segment “A Minute with Mike” which can be heard on Stateside. A proud U-M drop-out and Summa Cum Laude graduate of Wayne State, Blank first started working in radio in 1998 and has worked at WKHM, WDET, WXYT and WWJ. Blank won the 2012 Michigan Association of Broadcasters “Best Morning Show” award as the lone producer of the Charlie Langton Show. A Michigander since age 2, Blank has resided in Detroit since 2004 where he enjoys walks to Tiger’s games and watching wild pheasants in the vacant lots across the street.
