Michigan wants to cut fees, paperwork for medical marijuana

TheraCann

Michigan wants to make the medical marijuana process easier. The Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) proposed several new rules for patients and caregivers on Tuesday.

They include cutting the application fee from $60 to $40, increasing the renewal period for medical marijuana cards and eliminating the background check processing fee for caregivers.

Medical Marijuana Caregiver David Martin says the old fees and rules scared off caregivers and patients.

"In the past the paperwork has taken eight weeks to go through for a caregiver and patient to be … signed on together," Martin said.

LARA says they have excess profits from those fees and no longer need them. They will hold a public hearing on the proposed changes in the next few months before they are ratified.
