M-22 Grill and others to offer free Christmas meals

M-22 Grill will offer free Christmas Day dinner for the third year. Last year, the owners gave a check to the St. Joe Community Food Pantry from donations collected at the dinner.

Not everyone has somewhere to go for a warm meal on Christmas Day, and that’s why the owners of M-22 Grill in Onekama are opening their doors to those in need.

“The free Christmas dinner is about saying thanks to the community that has been so good to us over these past six years,” M-22 Grill owners John and Michelle Blackman said in a statement.

The meal is also available to those who have a difficult time cooking and want to be with friends and family in the community on the holiday.

It’s the third year the restaurant will serve a ham dinner. The meal includes potatoes, vegetables, salad, rolls and dessert. Last year, M-22 served over 200 people on Christmas Day.

“With this being our third Christmas dinner, we hope to have the restaurant filled with family members enjoying a delicious dinner and sharing holiday stories,” the owners said.

Reservations are not available, nor is takeout. The meal is completely free, although donations will be accepted. All tips and donations will go to the St. Joe Community Food Pantry. Last year, M-22 Grill donated $567 to the pantry.

“The local food pantry is a great cause and they are always looking for donations,” John Blackman said.

Gordon’s Food Service and MS Creative took care of some of the food costs for the free meal.

The United Methodist Church in East Jordan also will serve a free Christmas dinner on Christmas Day, from 1 to 3 p.m. The church is located at  201 Fourth St. East Jordan, Mich.
