This week on Kids Commute, it's "Old American Songs Week."
Composer Aaron Copland went digging through libraries and found a bunch of classic American folk tunes and arranged them into two sets. This week, we'll hear the first set, sung by legendary bass-baritone William Warfield with the composer at the piano.
We'll have a U.S.A.-themed Quizlet this week, too!
Congrats to this week's Quizlet aces so far: Robin in Charlevoix, Charles in Onekama, Fiona in Reed City, Linden in Frankfort, Tobias in Honor, Kierstyn in Merritt, Elisabeth in Buckley, The Five Slabaughs of Kingsley, Samuel in Arcadia, Aaron in Charlevoix, Andrew in Hart and Mario (with Hector and Kathryn), Bronwyn and Gwyneth, Kaia and Alora, Sam and Jonah, Finn, Lucas, Fulton, Luke and Landon in Traverse City! And - all the way from Memphis, Tennessee - Parker and Dorothy!
Tune in Monday through Friday at 7:40 a.m. on Classical IPR, or listen any time at the links below. Scroll down to the bottom of the page for this week's Maya Mix - now in a new format!
The MAYA MIX: we created this mix for Kids Commuter Maya, who likes to listen to the music for the show while she does her homework. This week, a new format for the Maya Mix - a Spotify playlist! The music is a wee bit different than what we heard on the show - the recordings in this mix are done with Copland conducting a full symphony orchestra. Click below to listen.
