A man in his 60s and a woman in her 70s died of COVID-19 in Grand Traverse County in a 24 hour time period.
The Grand Traverse County Health Department reported the passings Wednesday evening and Thursday morning.
The deceased were both hospitalized at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
“Although we anticipated we would eventually have to make this announcement, it doesn’t make it any easier. Our thoughts are with the family and friends directly affected by this death, as well as the Munson medical staff that provided care for our community member,” Wendy Hirschenberger, the health officer at the Grand Traverse County Health Department said in a statement.
As the situation continues to worsen, health officials remind residents to social distancing and self-isolate.
“Two deaths in less than 24 hours is a stark reminder of the threat that the spread of COVID-19 poses to our community," Hirschenberger said. "We urge everyone to stay home, stay safe and save lives.”
