Gov. Whitmer proposes spending plan to state leglisature

ZOE CLARK / MICHIGAN RADIO

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer presented her first budget proposal to the Michigan Legislature Tuesday. Whitmer says the spending plan will help improve Michigan’s roads, clean water and education.

Part of the proposal includes a 45 cent increase to the state's gas and diesel tax to fix Michigan's roads.

"A gas and diesel tax means every dollar actually goes toward fixing the roads," Whitmer says. "All the dollars that have been stolen from education and the general fund ... can get back to work in closing the skills gap."
