Detroit couple continues to bust, film humpers and dumpers

In part of the effort to take back their street, Lisa Thompson keeps the camera rolling as Jonathan Pommerville knocks on doors and unloads trash bags onto their owner's lawn.

Our conversation with Jonathan Pommerville and Lisa Thompson, Brightmoor's Camera Crusaders

JonathanPommervilleand Lisa Thompson live in Detroit’sBrightmoorneighborhood. While they view their street as home, others view it as an off-the-radar place to dump trash and drive off. Some also view it as a place to engage the services of prostitutes.

In response to the actions of these “humpers and dumpers,” Pommerville and Thompson pull out their video camera.

“I was tired of picking up condoms off my front lawn, picking up trash from people coming into the neighborhood that shouldn’t be there dumping off their refuse,” Pommerville said. “That’s where I decided, you know what, I’m going to start taking back the streets.”

The first step in the couple’s effort to “take back the streets” is to go through the piles of trash. They use envelopes and pill bottles to figure out where it all came from. Then, they return the piles to the dumper and post a video of it all on YouTube.
