Biden takes Michigan, including northern Michigan — many ballot initiatives pass

Dan Wanschura

Vice President Joe Biden was declared the winner of Michigan’s Democratic Presidential Primary, according to the Detroit Free Press. He took every county in the state.

In Grand Traverse County, it was nearly a tie between Biden and Sanders early on, but Biden snuck through with more than 1,500 votes on Sanders.

Benzie County reports that Biden received just over 50 percent of the democratic presidential primary votes. He took 55 percent in Leelanau County and 57 percent in Missaukee County.

Biden also scooped up 54 percent of Dem primary voters in Charlevoix and Antrim Counties.

Dial-a-Ride picks up a ‘yes’ vote in Manistee

Voters in Manistee county passed a public transportation millage by more than 2,000 votes.

The 50-cent millage will raise over half-a-million dollars in its first year. It will pay for the county's Dial-a-Ride service for the next six years.

Wexford county nods yes to school millage renewal

Wexford County voters approved a millage renewal for Cadillac Area Public Schools yesterday.

Seventy percent of voters approved the ballot measure, which will fund the district’s operating budget with more than $5.5 million a year.

Benzie bus service and 911 surcharge ballot measures pass

Benzie County renewed a millage for its bus service. The 49-cent mill funds its 22-bus fleet for another 5 years.

Residents will pay about a third of the cost of maintaining the service while state and federal grants and fare money make up the rest.

Benzie voters also said yes to a 911 surcharge millage. The county will continue to tack on an extra charge up to $3 for resident calls to emergency services.

It will be extended to 2025. The money will fund services and communication for Benzie County’s first responders.

Recycling program to continue in Missaukee

Missaukee County residents voted to fund their recycling program with a 25-cent millage through 2029.

County election results show that 56 percent of voters supported the measure.

The Cadillac News reports that the millage was proposed after the county’s recycling program didn’t get a federal grant that it normally receives.
