Best-selling thriller writer, 'surprise' author in National Writers Series lineup

National Writers Series

A best-selling thriller writer is one of the authors coming to Traverse City during this season’s National Writers Series.

Harlan Coben will appear at the Traverse City Opera House in July. He's one of five writers that the National Writers Series has announced are coming in 2015.

Jill Tewsley, executive director of the National Writers Series, says Coben will make his appearance during the National Cherry Festival, on July 9.

Tewsley says the lineup this year has writers from a wide variety of literary genres, and will include a surprise sixth author who hasn't been announced yet.

Fans of historical fiction can see one of the genre’s best-known authors, Jeff Shaara, this spring. The date is the first appearance Shaara is making on his national book tour, as he promotes his latest historical novel about the American Civil War.

“It’s happening in Traverse City on June 2, which also happens to be the official 150th anniversary of the end of the Civil War," Jill Tewsley says. "So it’s going to be a really unique and interesting evening.”

Tess Gerritsen, who writes medical thrillers, kicks off the National Writers Series with a talk on January 20. Those who attend that event can buy tickets for this season before they go on sale to the general public. Everyone else can buy tickets in early February.

The rest of the schedule includes: Garth Stein on April 21; Debbie Macomber on May 7.

As for the surprise sixth author – Jill Tewsley says the National Writers Series will announce who that guest is soon.
