Mike Carey is the Chief Strategy Officer and one of the founders of ATLAS Space Operations based in Traverse City.

ATLAS Space Operations is looking to expand its footprint in northern Michigan.

The Traverse City-based company is working with the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians to open a space technology center at the former Pugsley Correctional Facility in Kingsley.

“We have a working relationship with the band,” said ATLAS Chief Strategy Officer Mike Carey. “We also hope to work together with them in a joint venture to develop business together.”

ATLAS also is excited about a spacecraft launch site at the former Wurtsmith Air Force base in Oscoda. The location for the launch site was announced earlier this month.

Carey sat down with IPR News Director Noelle Riley to explain.
