This Thursday, ensembles from Traverse City Area Public Schools will come together in one big collaborative performance to raise proceeds for the Traverse City Music Boosters, which will go towards student scholarships and music classroom mini-grants.
Two TCAPS seniors came to IPR's Studio A to perform and tell us about the concert.
Amelia Lawens is a senior at Traverse City West Senior High School.
Amelia performed Robert Schumann's Romance, Op. 94 no 1 and is feeling a little bit emotional about playing her last high school concert.
"It's definitely nostalgic, but I'm very excited for it," she told IPR.
Bassoonist Jack Dwyer is a senior at Traverse City Central and performed Eugene Bordeau's "Premier Solo."
Dwyer loves the a huge emotional range in the piece. "It starts off very slow and dramatic, and then it goes into a super fiery technical part and then ends with a huge bang. It's just such a fun listen, and it's incredible to play."
Hear these two students and many of their peers at Thursday's Benefit Concert.
The Traverse City Music Boosters Benefit Concert takes place on Thursday, May 23 at 7 p.m. at the Traverse City Central High School gymnasium.
Kelley DiPasquale engineered this edition of Studio A.
