Immersive Art Experience - Manet and Monet

In this four-week class take a deep look into the lives of Édouard Manet, French modernist painter, and Claude Monet, one of the founders of the Impressionist Movement. To truly understand their art making, learn about the culture and events taking place in France during the mid to late 19th century. This class will begin with an introduction to Manet and Monet and their influences, including a presentation from Dr. Amanda Sewell, Music Director, Interlochen Public Radio. During weeks two and three, Royce Deans, CTAC faculty, will demonstrate and discuss the artists and their styles. In the fourth and final meeting students will sample French foods created by a local chef while discussing their experience and paintings. During the course of this class painting two 16x20 pieces in the style of each artist while listening to a playlist curated by Amanda. This class is designed for students of various levels of experience, including those who have never painted before. Supplies are provided and include canvas, paint, and a custom art journal that will include photos to be used for reference during and after the class.
