On Saturday, Interlochen Center for the Arts launched a $100 million comprehensive fundraising campaign called “Create Amazing.”

Donations will fund scholarships, programs and new facilities, including a music building.

Tim Dougherty, vice president of advancement, says the campaign is now open to the public.

“This campaign will give everyone a place to unite through the power of the arts,” says Dougherty. “We’re very excited about opening this up to the public and inviting even more support for this wonderful place.”

Every gift made to Interlochen since July 2012 is included in the effort. The campaign has already raised $91 million.

Dougherty says the number one priority is to build a new music center.

“Right now, music is scattered across our very large campus,” he says. “We have amazing teachers who, for example, have their studios in the basements of dormitories. We’re trying to have a facility that’s on par with the excellence of the program.”

Interlochen has already raised $15 million for the music facility. Dougherty says he anticipates it will break ground next spring.

In the interest of full disclosure, Interlochen Public Radio will benefit from this fundraising campaign.
