World Youth Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcasts

An Evening with the World Youth Symphony Orchestra begins at 7 p.m., ahead of the live concert at 7:30 p.m. That's a special early starting time. Experience treasures from the Interlochen archives and insightful comments from this week's conductor, Jung-Ho Pak. The live concert includes the music of Maurice Ravel and Leonard Bernstein with the Interlochen Festival Choir and soloists. The program features traditional season-ending performance of Les Préludes by Franz Liszt.

In the 7 o’clock hour, conductor Guillermo Figueroa talks about this week’s repertoire, and he shares memories of his days as a camper at Interlochen. The live concert at 8 p.m. features the Symphony No.1 by Shostakovich, Mariandà by Ernesto Cordero and the Overture to Benvenuto Cellini by Hector Berlioz.

The World Youth Symphony Orchestra performed July 2, 2017 in Kresge Auditorium. Karina Canellakis conducted works by Adams, Mendelssohn, and Ravel. The program was broadcast live on Classical IPR.

Alon Golstein is the piano soloist with the World Youth Symphony Orchestra at Interlochen this Sunday, July 30th. On Friday he stopped by Studio A and shared music by Domenico Scarlatti, Alberto Ginastera, and Claude Debussy. 

Conductor Carlos Izcaray conducts the World Youth Symphony Orchestra this Sunday, July 30th. The program includes The Chairman Dances by John Adams and La Mer by Claude Debussy. Alon Goldstein is the guest soloist performing Saint-Saëns' Second Piano Concerto. The concert will be broadcast live on Classical IPR Sunday at 8 p.m.

Week Four of the World Youth Symphony Orchestra at Interlochen features guest conductor Cristian Macelaru, Music Director of the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music.

This week's concert features Dvorak's Carnival Overture and Brahms Symphony No. 2. Macelaru - a former member of the WYSO himself - had some fascinating things to say about Brahms, Dvorak, and their musical ideas of happiness.

This week’s performance by the World Youth Symphony Orchestra features "Phenomenon" by Narong Prangcharoen, Mozart’s Third Violin Concerto with soloist Simone Porter, and "Capriccio Italien" by Tchaikovsky. Carlos Kalmar is the guest conductor for this concert which will be broadcast live at 8 p.m. on Classical IPR. Maestro Kalmar stopped by the studio at Interlochen Public Radio to chat about this week's repertoire.

 

JoAnn Falletta, Music Director of the Buffalo Philharmonic, returns to Interlochen Arts Camp to conduct the second week of the 2017 World Youth Symphony Orchestra season.

On the repertoire this week: Zhou Long's Tsingtao Overture, and Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade.
