Tea Party Express Works To Unseat Stupak

By Peter Payette

The Tea Party Express says it will spend $250,000 to help unseat Congressman Bart Stupak. The group has scheduled four rallies in Michigan's First Congressional District this week from Escanaba to Petoskey.

The Tea Party Express is funded by a Political Action Committee called Our Country Deserves Better, which pretty much sums up how the group feels about Bart Stupak and other Democrats who voted for the healthcare bill. A spokesman says they'll run television and radio ads to encourage voters to find someone else to represent them in Washington but he says there are no plans to endorse a specific challenger.

$250,000 dollars would be a fair amount of cash for a political campaign in Stupak's district. It's more money than his Republican challenger raised in 2008, but Stupak raised five times that much that year, and won an easy victory.

Still the Tea Party hopes he is weakened by the all the controversy and they say they're "encouraged" by news that he hasn't ruled out retirement.
