Noelle Moeggenberg named Grand Traverse County Prosecutor

Grand Traverse County

Noelle Moeggenberg has been appointed Grand Traverse County Prosecutor. Thirteenth Circuit Court Judges Thomas Power and Kevin Elsenheimer announced the selection Thursday.

Moeggenberg takes over for County Prosecutor Bob Cooney, who was elected 86th district court judge this November.

Moeggenberg has worked in the prosecutors office for the last 20 years – most recently as Chief Assistant Prosecutor.

“Noelle is among the most experienced trial attorneys in northern Michigan and has the judgment and fairness needed to be an effective prosecutor in Grand Traverse County,” Judge Powers said in a press release.

Moeggenberg says she is honored to accept the appointment as the county’s chief law enforcement officer.

“I know that it’s a role that comes with enormous responsibility,” she says, “and I think that the people that have worked with me over the years know that that’s not something that I take lightly.”

Moeggenberg says she will keep fighting for issues she’s passionate about.

“Personally, domestic violence, sexual assault cases have always been important to me,” she says. “I’ve worked pretty closely with the Children’s Advocacy Center on child sexual abuse cases and just making people aware of those and how to report those.”

She says she will also continue Cooney’s work on the drug crisis.

Moeggenberg starts in January and will finish out Cooney’s term until 2020. She says she will run for prosecutor in the next election.
