New projects may not be enough to fix Gaylord housing shortage

Finding mixed-income housing in Gaylord has long been a problem for residents, but a few projects opening later this year may help.

The Gaylord City Council recently approved a 50-unit income-based apartment complex, and this summer another 200-unit apartment building will break ground.

Lisa McComb is the executive director of the Otsego County Economic Alliance. She says hundreds of workers are starting jobs in the area in the next few years, and they need places to live.

“We continue to have new development up here commercially ... that continues to support the needs for those jobs,” McComb says.

McComb says the region is looking to recruit more developers who can help with the housing needs.
