Granholm Wooing Italian Auto Suppliers

<p><a href="mailto:rickp@mprn.org">By Rick Pluta</a></p> <p>Governor Granholm is leading a Michigan delegation, making visits to Italy and Germany this week on a trade mission. </p> <p>The governor met today with Italian auto suppliers, hoping to capitalize on the new partnership between Fiat and Chrysler. She's looknig to lure Italian auto parts companies to Michigan. </p> <p>Granholm says the joint venture appears confident, as it prepares to market the compact Fiat 500 in the U.S.. </p> <p>"They're very bullish on the future of the Chrysler-Fiat marriage, and what it's going to mean," she says. "They hope that they'll be making money soon and so we're confident if they're confident."</p> <p>The Fiat 500 engine will be built in southeast Michigan. </p> <p>Granholm says she expects Michigan will lose some German suppliers, with the end of the DaimlerChrysler partnership. She is off to Germany tomorrow to try to recruit new German manufacturers for Michigan.</p>
