Classical new release: 'Mozart and Myslivecek Flute Concertos'

Flutist Ana de la Vega performs a concerto by Josef Myslivecek as well as two by Mozart on a new album on the Pentatone label.

Myslivecek was born a generation before Mozart and was a major influence on the younger composer. Mozart mentioned Myslivecek more than any other composers in his letters, and he's the only composer that Mozart had anything kind to say about.

Ana de la Vega first performed the Myslivecek flute concerto with the English Chamber Orchestra in 2010. This is their first commercial recording of the work.

Correction: A previous version of this article mistakenly stated that this was the world premiere recording of the flute concerto by Josef Myslivecek. The world premiere recording was made in 1988 by flutist Bruno Meier and the Prague Chamber Orchestra.
