John Zech, host of the popular daily feature The Composers Datebook, is stepping down. In a statement, Zech said that multiple health issues led to his decision.

Zech was diagnosed with throat cancer in March of 2018. The cancer was surgically removed, but Zech lost his hearing while he was recovering.

He has received a cochlear implant but stated that it does not allow him to hear music well enough to continue being a classical host.

Classical IPR will continue to air archived episodes of The Composers Datebook on weekdays at 11:59 a.m. We will keep listeners updated if and when the program changes.
