Bear Hunting To Stay As-Is

<p><em><a href="mailto:allenre@interlochen.org">By Bob Allen</a></em></p> <p>Bear hunting licenses will not change this year. Hunting groups strongly opposed creating a new license just to hunt on private land.</p> <p>Some landowners complained that bears are causing damage to structures on their property, and they argued the best way to deal with that is by increasing hunting opportunities on their land.</p> <p>The Michigan Bear Hunting Association says that would lead to wealthy landowners controlling the wildlife.</p> <p>The state Natural Resources Commission decided unanimously to keep one bear licenses for both public and private land. But the Commission also asked for a special workgroup to make recommendations on how to handle nuisance bears in six months.</p>
