The Accidentals drop a new album this Friday.

“Odyssey” is the band’s first album since signing a record label deal with Sony Music Masterworks earlier this year. It features a mix of brand new songs and songs written years ago but never recorded.

Founding members Sav Buist and Katie Larson are from Traverse City. Sav says their label has been marketing the group as “ragged but right.”

“We’re ok with authenticity and with the imperfections that come with our music,” she says. “We’re trying to hang on to that and let each song hang on it’s own.”

Sony Music Masterworks will distribute “Odyssey” to a global audience. But Katie says they didn’t want that change the way the music sounds.

“This album’s going to be the first impression for a lot of people,” she says. “We’re in the studio finding that balance of not overproducing.”

The Accidentals will celebrate the release of “Odyssey” with a party at Fountain Point Resort on Lake Leelanau Aug. 27. Click here for more information on the new album and national tour.
